About the Institute

 

Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad(MNNIT), Prayagraj is an Institute with total commitment to quality and excellence in academic pursuits. It was established as one of the seventeen Regional Engineering Colleges in India in the year 1961 as a joint enterprise of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and was an associated college of the University of Allahabad, which is the third oldest university in India. For a short duration of two years (2000-2002), the Institute was affiliated to U.P. Technical University. With over 45 years of experience and achievements in the field of technical education, having traversed a long way, on June 26, 2002, MNREC was transformed into National Institute of Technology and Deemed University fully funded by Government of India. With the enactment of the National Institutes of Technology Act-2007 (29 of 2007), the Institute has been granted the status of an institution of national importance w.e.f. 15.08.2007.

About the Department      

The Department of Electronics Engineering came into existence in 1982 as an integral part of the Department of Electrical Engineering. It started B. E. Degree in Electronics Engineering in 1982 with an intake of 40. In 1996, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering separated from Electrical Engineering and started functioning as independent Department.

Presently the department offers one B.Tech program in Electronics and Communication Engineering and three M.Tech programs with specialization in Signal Processing, Microelectronics and VLSI Design and Communication Systems. The department is actively involved in research in different core areas leading to PhD degree. Beside this, department is also recognised as a QIP Centre for M.Tech and PhD. programs by Government of India. Presently, the department has 32 qualified and competent faculty members at different levels. The department has different research groups in the area of Digital signal processing, Analog and Digital circuit design, Data communication and networking, Wireless and mobile communication, High speed network, Optical communication network, Antenna, Sensors, Optoelectronic devices, Microelectronics, Microcontroller and Embedded system and so on.

Vision of the Department

The vision of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department is to become a globally leading department of higher learning, building upon the culture and the values of universal science and contemporary education, and a center of research and education generating the knowledge and the technologies which lay the groundwork in shaping the future in the fields of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Mission of the Department

M 1: To provide quality education and research leading to B. Tech., M. Tech. and Ph. D. degree in the area of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Technology which may produce globally acceptable high quality skilled manpower.

M 2: To impart technical education which may provide innovative skills in their respective area of specialization for society in general with universal moral values, adherent to the professional ethical codes.

M 3: To generate and disseminate knowledge and technologies essential to the local and global needs in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

PO1- Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2- Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3- Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4- Conduct   investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5- Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6- The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7- Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

The Mission of the program is to offer high quality B.Tech. degree education such that the students prosper in their career or pursue the higher education to further enhance the knowledge.

  • The first program educational objective of the B.Tech. program aims at attaining this by providing sound fundamental knowledge.
  • The second program educational objective strongly addresses the mission component of making a positive contribution to society. The graduates of the program are expected to provide computing solutions that are economically feasible to real world problems to cater to the needs of society.

The third program educational objective is what values our B.Tech. students will have that positively aims at contributing to society. Furthermore, social, scientific, and technological development are mentioned in the department’s mission, which is referred to by PEO 3 through considering social and ethical dimensions.
